Where We’ve Been

We took a bit of a break from The Blog™️ over the last 6 weeks due to a culmination of events.

First, the Black Lives Matter movement took our attention, and, we hope, yours. For a while it felt too performative, centrist, and, frankly, silly to be posting anything here. We know our blog is mostly for us, and focuses primarily on our lifestyles. More accurately, it focuses on our white lifestyles. As two white women, the internet we interact with most can often and easily default to a very white-centered space. We have been working on changing that personally, and want this blog space to reflect that work and our intentions of better diversifying our “feeds.” With the responsibility of raising two tiny beings who we hope make a difference in the world, we both feel it’s immensely important to show them that equality, equity, and inclusion are pursuits we are passionate to promote.

Second, there have been some geographic changes in our friendship. Excitingly and devastatingly, Stella and her family made the decision to temporarily relocate from Los Angeles to her hometown in North Carolina. For very responsible and realistic reasons, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to live in L.A. during the Covid-19 pandemic with an 8 month-old, while both Stella’s and her husband’s jobs have moved to be completely remote until at least January. For emotional and less mature reasons, it’s all been sad and upsetting to say the least. The move decision was made quickly, and so there were only so many weeks left in L.A. For that reason our two families chose to become a “quarantine pod” for the time before Stella left. It was lovely and torturous and completely necessary after having socially distanced away from each other since mid-March.

Third, it’s all just been a bit much. Moving, packing, baby-ing, being employed, being unemployed, full time mom-ing, cooking every single meal at home (washing every single dish at home!), finding any sort of sense of balance, exercising at home, wearing masks outside of our homes, figuring out plane travel in the time of Covid, wanting to share the world outside our homes with our two new babies. We fully recognize the privilege of so many of these struggles, but also the heft and intensity that these quaran-times have delivered.

Now, all that being said, we want to get back to it! We miss the blog, and especially now that we’re across the country from each other, we think it’s an important part of our friendship to keep up. We’re probably going to be reworking our 2020 goals list because big LOL to that travel section. But we’ll be here, talking about our adventures in parenthood, sharing a cross-country friendship, learning, reading, realizing, stretching, bettering, listening, and, ultimately, asking the question we still find looming: are we adults yet?

Let us know what you think!
