There are so many products out there that help make pumping just a tiny bit easier and we are all for anything that saves us time and gets us more time with our kids. In the last few years, two companies have revolutionized pumping by creating “silent” wearable pumps that you can use on the go. We love the concept but hate the price tag. So we rounded up a few great ways to save money on these unique pumps!
Check Your Insurance
Some insurance plans cover the Elvie Pump or Willow Pump at least partially. Before you do anything else, check to see what you might be eligible for just in case the savings are bigger than anything else we outline below.
Use FSA or HSA Funds
Some employers offer a Health Flexible Spending Account where you can put tax-free funds to pay for eligible expenses. We did a whole post about the many things you can use these accounts for during pregnancy and beyond!
Because your FSA contributions reduce your taxable income, participation will lower your taxes. So, if you’re in a 22% tax bracket, each $100 you contribute to the FSA would save you $22 in taxes. Check with your tax advisor for more info about how this works.
Both the Elvie and Willow pumps are eligible expenses so you can use these funds to pay for them and thus save a lot of money on this purchase. Take it even further by using your own credit card to pay for the product (yay points!) and then get reimbursed rather than using the debit card attached to your FSA account.
HSA funds are similar and these pumps also are qualified expenses. An HSA account would be paired with your high deductible health plan. So look into this if you have one of those.
Ask for a Discount
Seems too easy, right? Both Willow and Elive have been known to gift discount codes if you just ask. It seems that these are normally for 10% off the product, but you won’t know till you try!
They also (very rarely) have sales. So sign up for their email lists and pay particular attention during holidays. Last Black Friday through Cyber Monday Willow offered a 15% off code and Elvie was offering up to $50 off their pump.
Buy a Single Pump
The double pumps cost almost twice as much. Give the single version a try before buying one for each side. We love to use the single pump while nursing and find it pretty easy to conceal what you are doing with a scarf even if you actually look quite lopsided.
Use Target’s Baby Registry
Create a registry (even with just one item: the pump) and utilize the registry completion discount (15%). By doing this, you not only get the discount but you also can return it if it does not work for you! You have 90 days to return but if you buy from your registry it’s a year to return. Technically the Elvie and Willow are exceptions to the year return policy but it depends on who you get at customer service. If they say no, try a different Target or come back on a different day and try a different worker.
You can also use your discount to buy extra parts and bottles. Keep these items in their original packaging just in case you decide not to keep the pump. But if you love it, you’ll already have all your extra supplies at a discount too!
PS – you also get a welcome box of goodies for registering, check out our unboxing here.
Use Willow’s Referral Program
Find a friend that already has a Willow and they’ll give you $25 off your purchase. If you need a friend, we’ve got you covered with a link here 😉
Once you have your own Willow Pump, sign up for their rewards program and you can earn free storage bags for referring your friends.
Has anyone else tried these revolutionary pumps? Did you get a discount? Let us know how you saved in the comments!
Hi, wanted to comment that you can’t actually get the Elvie through Target registry! I had the same plan in mind but it’s on the list of unapproved brands.
