It’s A Thing 1.24.20

  1. My sister started a new Instagram account with beautiful photos that she’s taken of her friends climbing all over Europe. img_2838
  2. I loved listening to this episode of Extra Pack of Peanuts all about Asheville, NC. I grew up about an hour from there and it was really fun to hear about how the city has changed since I lived there and get to experience it from an outside perspective. I can’t wait to go home again and try out some of their recommendations!
  3. This infographic about grocery store brands. I was shocked to see how few companies own all of the big brands even some that compete with each other.
  4. I thought this was a very cool example of two different ways to buy a house. It shows how your money can work for you.
  5. I’m excited to check out ChooseFI’s new (starts today!) FREE financial literacy online course. I love the podcast (check out our other favs here) and can’t wait to enjoy their content in this new format. The FIRE is spreading!

  1. I made this lemon poppy seed cake last week (um. YUM.) inspired by all of our Great British Bake Off watching as of late. It calls for a tube pan, which I don’t have, so I was very glad to find this cake pan size conversion chart! I ended up doing a three-tier with four, six, and eight-inch pans.

The Great Baby Baking Show. Time constraint = nap time.
  2. I’ve been waiting for a 529 post from Frugalwoods basically since she started blogging! It’s one area of finances that I still feel woefully underprepared and in the dark about, so I was so happy this post finally came about.
  3. My office is very casual when it comes to attire. Sometimes, to me, it feels too casual, with the majority of people wearing jeans and t-shirts. I try to keep a somewhat professional demeanor (I don’t usually wear jeans… though that rule went out the window when I was pregnant) and I would love to see some of my coworkers adopt the same mentality, as I feel it levels up the work being done and office as a whole.
  4. This is pretty nerdy, but super fun if you’re interested. Part one and part two on an introduction to machine learning.
  5. Since completing my see-every-state-by-the-time-I’m-25 goal, I’ve struggled with what a next (accomplishable) travel goal could be for me (and my family?). Love Marissa’s goal of seeing every National Park, maybe that could be what’s up next!
