It’s beginning to look a lot like… the holidays, where all the willpower in the world can’t protect against the sweets and treats of the season! While all those goodies sure do taste good, we’re big on keeping a regular fitness routine in these last few weeks of the year to help feeling good while indulging a bit. To aid, we’ve both been big fans of fitness trackers. Laura has had a Misfit, Stella loves her Google doc where she records days of yoga, Stella’s husband swears by his Fitbit, and both Stella and Laura keep a pretty constant eye on their steps apps throughout the year. Whatever the tracking, we both think the accountability really helps keep a reliable routine in our lives. Here are three options we like when it comes to fitness tracking.
1. Pencil & Paper
Can’t get more simple than this. We’ve been intrigued by the rise of the bullet journal trend and think it could be a great option to incorporate fitness tracking into your daily to-dos. (This template looks like a great start!)
Because there is no predetermined tracking system, this also means you can extend your categories to more than just fitness. Want a record of your flossing schedule? Need to make sure your pet is getting fed and cared for? Bullet journals, pencil and paper, or a Google doc can simplify that tracking!
2. MyFitnessPal
Laura has gone in and out of utilizing the MyFitnessPal app and website to track nutrition, exercise, and key health indicators over the years. It’s a great platform if you want the nitty gritty of caloric content, and can be synced with the built in health apps from Apple and Android.
3. Wearables
The wearable trend is alive and well! Fitbits and Apple Watches seem to be the industry leaders (we both love the Pedometer++ app on iPhone that also has a paired Watch view), but we also like Misfit and Garmin as competitors in the space. These limit your tracking to purely movement and activity, but if that’s your new year’s resolution, treating yourself to some tech to make achieving your goal easier could absolutely be a step in the right direction.
Do you use a fitness tracker? Has it helped you be more accountable or is does it feel like more of a nuisance to keep up with? Let us know in the comments!
