It’s a Thing 4.6.19

  1. I really appreciate that Southwest is doing an Obscure Holidays sale. What better way to celebrate National Superhero Day?
  2. I went on a beautiful hike in Malibu this week. It was very cool to see how nature is growing back around the fire damage from earlier this year.

  3. I’ve been getting a lot of spam phone calls lately from other countries, they usually come in the middle of the night and I get several of them every day. According to the articles that I’ve read up on this the companies are hoping that I will call the numbers back to see what’s going on and that will put a bit charge on my cell bill. Putting it out there in case any of you are having similar annoying spam experiences!
  4. Greatly enjoyed this article that includes many lesser known facts of plane travel. I only knew a couple of these… and there are a few I wish I didn’t know.
  5. I loved the episode of planet money this week that delved into a new way to pay for college. It’s something that I think we really need to get creative about and even though I don’t think this tactic is great for everyone, I like that people are thinking outside of the box!

  1. My last day of work is this upcoming Wednesday and I am super psyched. My to do list for “things to do before Beep gets here” is pretty long, so getting to take a few weeks pre-due date is definitely a luxury I’m cashing in on. Topping the list? Organization (grabbed these clothing storage bags and this cabinet/shelf unit to assist), stocking up our freezer with ready-to-heat meals (thank you Molly Yeh for the inspiration), and also taking many, many naps.

My desk calendar felt particularly apt this week.
  2. My midwives are very focused on good gut health throughout pregnancy so I’ve been consuming a lot more yogurt, kombucha, and kimchi lately. I’ve been loving yogurt and this granola lately as a snack!
  3. Loved reading the Frugalwoods’ foray into sugaring. My brother started tapping his own trees and making syrup last year and the difference between his syrup and store-bought is so crazy. We savor it all year long!
  4. “Get a baby book” has been on my to do list since September and I finally found one I liked this week. Etsy was definitely the place to go for options, as I felt like all the ones on Amazon or in stores were a bit too trendy or overly elaborate. These were some other options I had bookmarked [1], [2], [3], [4].

  1. So fun to see what you two have been up to! Great to hear spring is popping up after the aftermath of the fires. My two kiddos were born with the help of mid-wives 26 and 23 years ago. Back then, they didn’t talk about gut health, but it is nice to hear they are doing so now. You’re right – take LOTS of naps now, you’re gonna need the energy! Thanks for stopping by again to say hi, enjoy your weekend!!

  2. Another great post! My elderly neighbor has been getting calls! I will have to warn her not to call back! Thanks guys! Btw, can’t wait to see baby pics! 🙂

  3. Stella, I need to read that article on air travel. Hubby and I do a lot of air traveling.

Laura, you are in the “home stretch!” So exciting! I love yogurt too, but unfortunately had to switch from full fat to no-fat recently due to high cholesterol! 🙁

  4. Thanks for the spam tip, Stella. And Laura: Very exciting–with the baby coming soon. Naps–YES. Prepared meals–YES. And let your friends help as much as they want to, especially with cleaning, etc., before and after the baby, so you can fill out your baby book and nap when the baby does! I’m still working on my boys’ infant scrapbook, because I put it off. (They are 9!) Don’t be like me…
