With the new year fast approaching (HOW is it already 2019?!), we know a lot of New Year’s resolutions center around cooking at home more and/or eating more healthily. Today we’ve got a roundup of all our favorite dinner kit delivery subscriptions that can help accomplish both of those goals! Most deliveries come with two, three, or four portions (you pick how many you receive) and are cookable within 30-45 minutes, and all of them strive to keep produce in season and deliver on healthy but filling recipes. We’ve been big fans of many different services over the last five or six years, not only because the ease and convenience factor for sure helps us with some weeknight “what will we have for dinner” conundrums, but also because it has introduced new foods, new cooking techniques, and dozens on dozens of new recipes! Here’s the rundown…
Blue Apron
Price: $7.49 – $9.99 per serving; $47.95 – $119.84 weekly total
Welcome Gift: N/A
Intro Deal: Blue Apron is almost always running an intro deal — right now it’s $20 off your first three boxes; be sure to google “Blue Apron signup deal” for the latest option
Why we love it: One of the first “to market,” Blue Apron was the first meal kit delivery that either of us signed up for. We immediately loved the new recipes we were being introduced to, the new cooking techniques we used, and the reusable recipe cards that came with every meal!
Sun Basket
Price: $10.99 – $12.99 per serving; $51.96 – $135.84 weekly total
Welcome Gift: N/A
Intro Deal: $40 off your first order
Why we love it: Definitely one of the pricier options, Sun Basket delivers on unique and very flavorful meal combinations. We love this option as a treat (usually ordering only once a quarter or so, to keep our grocery budget in check!) as it has expanded our horizons on doable and delectable weeknight dining!
Home Chef
Price: $9.95 per serving; $59.70+ weekly total
Welcome Gift: Branded three-ring binder for recipe cards
Intro Deal: $30 off your first order
Why we love it: A great “build-your-menu” option, Home Chef requires you to select three meals per week, but then also allows you to select as many recipes on top of that as you want! We’ve opted to do this when we knew we had company coming by or a big potluck to cook for, as you can choose 2- or 4-serving options for each recipe, too.
Munchery
Price: $6.95/month membership fee; $10.99 – $13.49 per serving; $45.59+ weekly total
Welcome Gift: Red and yellow checkered apron
Intro Deal: $20 off your first order
Why we love it: Munchery has a slew of options to order from — ready to heat main dishes, meal kits for two, ready to eat side dishes, kids options and desserts! Most of Munchery’s meal kits can be made in 15 minutes are less – that’s faster than ordering delivery! Because the meals are built to be fast, you do lose a little quality with the ingredients (ie – pre-cooked rice that gets heated up in the microwave) but all the meals are delicious and if you have a busy week, Munchery is a great choice. Only available in most West Coast and Mountain states, we’re hoping Munchery expands soon to the rest of the U.S.!
Marley Spoon
Price: $8.20 – $12.00 per serving; $48.00 – $131.20 weekly total
Welcome Gift: N/A
Intro Deal: First box free
Why we love it: I mean… when you have Martha Stewart backing the product, what more can we say to convince you?! Marley Spoon has consistently impressed us with its high quality ingredients in deliveries, ease of preparation, and delicious meals!
Hello Fresh
Price: $6.99 – $8.99 per serving +shipping; $59.99 – $95.89 weekly total
Welcome Gift: N/A
Intro Deal: Hello Fresh is almost always running an intro deal — right now it’s $20 off your first three boxes; be sure to google “Hello Fresh signup deal” for the latest option
Why we like it: You may have noticed these last two contenders have changed to “why we like it” instead of “love.” Hello Fresh is not our favorite of the meal kit delivery services, and has disappointed us a few times with inconsistent recipe deliciousness, missing ingredients, and untimely deliveries (we know, we know… if it says “will be delivered by 9pm,” we can’t be too picky… but when you’re counting on dinner that night arriving it can be frustrating!). Hello Fresh’s big redeeming factor on cost hasn’t been quite enough for us to keep our subscription current.
Plated
Price: $9.95 – $11.95 per serving; $47.80 – $159.20 weekly total
Welcome Gift: N/A
Intro Deal: Plated is almost always running an intro deal — right now it’s 60% off your first week; be sure to google “Plated signup deal” for the latest option
Why we like it: Another “like” not “love,” Plated hasn’t been the best for us, too. The ingredients and deliveries were all perfect consistent, but the recipes were uninspiring at best. One reason we love meal kits so much is to introduce us to new techniques, flavor combinations, and ingredients. Plated time and again only had options for things we already felt fairly comfortable cooking, so the cost, for us, just wasn’t worth it.
Does anyone subscribe to one (or more!) of these meal kit delivery services? Subscribe to one we didn’t mention here?? Let us know in the comments!

Have used Blue Apron. Delicious but not a quick answer to what’s for dinner! Many steps to follow before prep is done
