I’ve been listening to the Money Peach podcast for about 8 months and have listened to 65+ episodes (slowly getting through them all!). I think it’s a great podcast for anyone who is starting to get interested in Personal Finance and wants something to listen to that isn’t too technical that will help you stay on track.
The host, Chris Peach, is a full-time firefighter in Phoenix Arizona. He and his wife figured out their debt situation was out of control and after a lot of hard work, they’ve turned it around and he is now a financial coach in addition to his job as a firefighter. Some of my favorite episodes are the first few where he talks about his personal story. I’d recommend listening to most of the first few episodes that jump out to you and also read along on the blog about car payments (and why they suck), how to retire a millionaire and why starting young and teaching your kids about money is so important.
As the podcast grew, he pivoted to doing more interview-style episodes and these are a few of my favorite ones to date.
Episode 5: Save More with Sinking Funds
This episode changed the way that I personally set up my own finances. I get paid monthly. That means I have to be really careful and budget correctly during the month so that I don’t run out. That makes it really hard to save unless you do it first. I love the “pay yourself first tactic” and in this episode, Peach goes in depth with a method that really works for me called, sinking funds. Basically, you take your big yearly purchases and divide them by 12 then each month “pay” that amount to a separate account just for that purpose. When the bill comes around, you are ready for it. This also works for saving up for a big trip or emergency fund. Listen to this episode if you want to take control of your money and how you save!
Episode 43: Building a Massive Real Estate Portfolio In Your 20s – with Dana Bull
As you can tell from the title, Dana Bull built a massive real estate portfolio in her 20s. It is an impressive story especially because she got started at such a young age. I really love this episode because Dana Bull is based in Salem and Boston, MA. Boston is one of my favorite cities so I personally love hearing about it on one of my favorite podcasts. Even if you are not a Boston fan or not personally interested in owning a lot of real estate, this is a great episode. It teaches you a lot about how to buy a home (even just one) and the power of taking control of money while you are young.
Episode 53: Retire Inspired with Ramsey Personality Chris Hogan
This episode is inspirational for anyone who is thinking about retirement. Peach interviews Chris Hogan who wrote the book Retire Inspired. He walks you through the different retirement streams that you need to have and talks about how retirement can’t just be associated with an age but needs to be about how much you need to retire and live the life you want. One of my favorite quotes from this episode is when Peach says: “It’s always better to start as early as possible but the best time to start is now”. This episode is informative and motivational. I love the passion you can hear from both Chris’ as they talk about helping spread the word about how to save for retirement and tips for getting started investing.
Episode 59: A 6 Figure Salary to Pick Up Trash? You Better Believe It – with Brian Winch
This episode is motivational for anyone who ever has dreamt of owning their own business or wants to have a great side hustle in addition to their full-time job. Brian Winch created his own business, Cleanlots, in 1981 and it’s built it’s way up from being a lucrative side hustle to a full-time passion, pulling in a 6-figure income. Brian’s passion for his own business as well as his excitement to help others is addicting. Be sure to give this episode a listen!
Episode 80: The $10K Virtual Assistant with Kayla Sloan
In this episode, Peach interviews his virtual assistant, Kayla Sloan. Kayla has been with him since the very beginning and in the meantime, she has built her own incredible business. I particularly liked this episode because not only is it about someone building their own business but it is also an inside look at how this podcast is made, produced and promoted. I highly recommend this episode if you are interested in starting a blog, adding side hustle or creating a podcast.
Hopefully, I’ve convinced you to give this podcast a listen. If you are excited to learn about personal finance (or want to get started) – this is a great place to start!
Outside of the podcast, his blog and weekly newsletter are also great. A few of my favorites are the post about How Do I Get My Spouse On Board with Money?, the list of 150+ Freebies to Get on Your Birthday, the post Her Husband Wrecked Her Credit & 2 Months Later She Boosted Her Score 73 Points, and the opinion piece Million Dollar Question: Pay Off Your Mortgage Early or Invest More Now?.
